The six houses

Aurenza is organised into six olfactive houses. Each begins with a single raw material and a decision about how dark it should be worn. Read in order, they run from the resinous to the green.

Twenty-four compositions · Grasse, France

House I · Oud · Leather · Black Plum

Noir Absolu

The darkest house on the bench. Noir Absolu is built on smoked oud and black plum, laid over leather and labdanum, and macerated longer than anything else in the collection. It is not a fragrance for daylight; it is the one you reach for once the evening has already begun.

  • NOIR ABSOLU
Black plum · Bulgarian rose · smoked oud · leather
  • OUD CENDRÉ
Birch tar · smoked oud · guaiac wood · black pepper
  • CUIR DE MINUIT
Suede · iris root · Haitian vetiver · tobacco leaf
  • RÉSINE NOIRE
Labdanum · myrrh · benzoin · tonka bean

House II · Amber · Honey · Sandalwood

Aurum

Aurum is the warm end of the collection: golden amber, acacia honey and vanilla absolute over Mysore sandalwood. It is the house people arrive at first and return to most, and the one we send out as a gift more often than any other.

  • AURUM DORÉ
Amber accord · acacia honey · tonka bean · vanilla absolute
  • AMBRE SOLAIRE
Golden amber · bourbon vanilla · sandalwood · benzoin
  • MIEL SAUVAGE
Wild honey · immortelle · beeswax · white tobacco
  • SANTAL D'OR
Mysore sandalwood · saffron · cashmeran · violet leaf

House III · Incense · Ash · Vetiver

Cendres

Cendres takes cold smoke as its subject: frankincense, mineral ash and smoked vetiver, held together with Atlas cedar and elemi. Restrained, faintly austere, it is the quietest of the six and the one that rewards patience the most.

  • CENDRES FROIDES
Cold incense · mineral ash · Atlas cedar · elemi
  • ENCENS NOIR
Omani frankincense · pink pepper · myrrh · cade oil
  • VÉTIVER FUMÉ
Smoked vetiver · grapefruit peel · cypress · dry earth
  • PAPIER BRÛLÉ
Papyrus · guaiac wood · iris · burnt sugar

House IV · White Musk · Neroli · Sea Salt

Éclat Blanc

The lightest house: white musk, Tunisian neroli and Williams pear, with a thread of sea salt running through it. Éclat Blanc is built to sit close and stay clean rather than to announce itself, which is precisely why people keep it.

  • ÉCLAT BLANC
White musk · neroli · Williams pear · blonde woods
  • FLEUR DE SEL
Sea salt · sambac jasmine · ambrette seed · driftwood
  • NÉROLI PUR
Tunisian neroli · Calabrian bergamot · orange blossom · petitgrain
  • LYS CÉLESTE
Madonna lily · white tea · silk musk · green almond

House V · Fig Leaf · Green Mandarin · Oakmoss

Verger

Verger is the orchard house: fig leaf and coconut milk, green mandarin, basil and damp oakmoss. It reads green and slightly bitter, and it behaves best in heat — worn in the afternoon, not at a table.

  • FIGUIER VERT
Fig leaf · galbanum · coconut milk · cedar
  • HERBE HAUTE
Green mandarin · basil · vetiver · tomato leaf
  • MOUSSE DE CHÊNE
Oakmoss · bracken fern · petitgrain · wet stone
  • POIRE SAUVAGE
Wild pear · ivy leaf · cedar · white amber

House VI · Saffron · Rose · Cardamom

Nuit d'Épices

Nuit d’Épices is the spiced house, opening on Kashmiri saffron and Taif rose before settling into Cambodian oud and ambergris. It is the boldest of the six and the one most often worn as a signature.

  • SAFRAN NUIT
Kashmiri saffron · Taif rose · Cambodian oud · ambergris
  • POIVRE NOIR
Black pepper · cinnamon bark · amber · cistus
  • CARDAMOME ROSE
Green cardamom · Turkish rose · white musk · cedarwood
  • GINGEMBRE FAUVE
Fresh ginger · nutmeg · tobacco leaf · vanilla
