Manifesto
We do not build a fragrance to be noticed at the door. We build one to be remembered at the collar.
Noir Absolu began with a single decision: that the darkest materials in the organ — smoked oud, birch tar, labdanum — deserved more time than the rest. Where the other houses are filtered at sixty days, this one sits for ninety.
The result is slower and heavier than anything else we make. It opens with fruit and closes on leather and resin, and on skin it is still legible at hour ten.
Four compositions
The Noir Absolu range
The olfactive family
Woody, resinous, unhurried
The house belongs to the woody-resinous family, which in practice means three materials doing most of the work.
Smoked oud
Cambodian oud, smoked slowly over guaiac and birch tar. Dry, faintly animalic, and the reason the house reads dark rather than sweet.
Suede and iris
A supple suede accord softened with iris root and tobacco leaf. It keeps the composition from turning sharp and gives it something to sit on.
Labdanum and myrrh
Sticky, balsamic resins that hold the base together for ten hours or more. This is the part people remember you by.
Worn together
Two bottles, one skin
The house was composed to layer within itself. A single spray of an extrait over an eau de parfum changes the pace of the whole evening without changing its character.
- NOIR ABSOLU + CUIR DE MINUITThe extrait over the leather. Fruit and oud on top, suede underneath — the most formal pairing we make.
- OUD CENDRÉ + RÉSINE NOIRESmoke over resin. Cold and dry at the front, balsamic at the base; best in winter.
- NOIR ABSOLU + AURUM DORÉOne spray of amber under the extrait rounds the oud and makes it wearable in daylight.
